Living in Unison

on December 10, 2007

I was searching under my bed for something today and came across my box of old journals. I’ve been keeping a daily journal since I was 14 so I have lots of journals. I picked up one from 1997 and thumbed through it and read a few pages. What surprised me (and not in a good way) was that the journal entry I made in 1997 could have been the same journal entry I made yesterday.

In that entry (which I’m sure is identical to hundreds of journal entries of mine) I bemouned my weight, my eating habits, and a resolve to change. It made me think when will I really change? When will I make the dreams and hopes for myself come to pass?

I came across this quote awhile ago. “The dream was always running ahead of me. To catch up, to live for a moment in unison with it – that was the miracle.”(Anais Nin)

This is what I want – to living in unison of the dream – all my dreams.

I’ve been thinking of another thing lately too. What would I be like if I had already overcome some of these challenges? What would my behavior look like? What would my thought processes be? I wish I knew the answer right now but I think it will take some real thought to create that picture in my mind and then to begin living in unision with it.

My new year’s resolutions are the EXACT same every year. This post is a great one. Thanks for reminding me that I am not alone and for giving me the added incentive to stop putting off what I want for myself.

I love love love that quote. It’s a keeper.
Happily, you are not in this “why can’t I change” mode alone. We’re all there with you. That’s what it means to be human. When we become more than human (meaning, in this with GOD and not just on our own), then we can change…there are flickers of that. Let the flickers last a little longer each time they come. I say this as MUCH for myself as anyone.
    I adore you!!
